He made his way carefully through the undergrowth, his black coat blending in neatly with the long shadows cast by the canopy above. Raising his nose, he sniffed the air, orienting himself to the position of his pack. He often spent time alone in the woods, being a somewhat solitary creature, but he had a mate to think of, so he always tried to return in good time.
Sensing that he was near the others, he quickened his pace until he was in sight of them. Ah, there was Tinni and her mate Cazi. The two stood together, seriously discussing the details of the pack's next hunt. He was happy to see them taking their roles of leadership so seriously--it let him know he was in good paws. As he passed by, they paused in their conversation to greet him briefly.
Beyond the Alpha pair, the Beta pair lay, basking in a small spot of sun. Zizzi, the white female, was soundly asleep. Her mate Bani looked drowsly, but had not yet succumbed. He was the first of the group to speak, his tone lazy and informal. "Hello there Grisca. Have yourself a nice time in the woods?" Grisca sat down near the couple and smiled a little. "Yes, as always." His mate, Tedazex, was not in the clearing when he arrived, but at the sound of his voice she quickly appeard. "Welcome home," she greeted him.
